Tigín Irish Pub to Close "for a few weeks" Jan. 17
Management says they "hope to get this resolved as soon as possible."
Tigín Irish Pub – a staple of downtown Stamford’s Bedford Street strip – is scheduled to close its doors on Jan. 17, 2026. Tigín will be closed “for a few weeks” until a new management team is hired, according to Fado Pubs Inc. Regional Manager Kieran Aherne. Fado Pubs Inc. owns and operates Tigín in Stamford.
Seeking new management
The closure of Tigín follows the resignation of its current general manager. The general manager shared with staff on Jan. 7 their last day would be Saturday, Jan. 17.
Tigín previously changed its schedule to be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays due to lack of management staff to cover shifts on those days. Multiple current employees confirmed Tigín does not have any onsite management positions other than its current general manager.
Aherne said the company plans to reopen Tigín soon.
“Our current team [moved] onto other things,” said Aherne via email. “We hoped to have a new team in place by now but sadly that hasn’t work out. We hope to get this resolved [as soon as possible] and get back to normal business.”
National trend of closures for Tigín’s owner
Tigín Irish Pub is owned by Fado Pubs Inc., founded by Kieran McGill in 1999. The company was incorporated in Delaware and based in Georgia.
According to a 2015 interview with The Irish Times, McGill operated 15 Irish Pubs across the United States – including Tigín in Stamford. Since 2015 many of these locations have closed:
· Denver, CO. Closed in May 2017.
· Austin, TX. Closed in July 2017.
· Miami, FL. Closed in Jan. 2019.
· Washington, DC. Closed in April 2020.
· Seattle, WA. Closed in March 2021.
· St. Louis, MO. Closed in April 2021.
· Annapolis, Maryland. Closed in Sept. 2021.
· Dallas, TX. Closed at an undefined date.
Fado Pubs Inc.’s website lists five current locations in four cities: Atlanta GA, Columbus OH, Chicago IL, and Philadelphia PA. The Stamford location does not use the “Fadó Irish Pub” name and is not listed.
Users on Reddit’s r/StamfordCT claimed Tigin’s had previously announced a closure in Jan. 2025, but this claim was based on misunderstanding an advertisement. A local band called “The Last Hoorah” performed at Tigín in Jan. 2025. Patrons misinterpreted advertising of the band as the rhetorical “last hoorah” of Tigín’s business operations before closing.
